West Los Angeles or West L.A., as it is popularly called, is located in the Westside region of Los Angeles. The West L.A. district shares boundaries with Santa Monica, Brentwood, Rancho Park and many other important parts of the city. The present day area of West Los Angeles was once under the colonial rule of Spain.
The Anglo settlers started settling down in the area after the Mexican-American War was over. As a result, the original landowners were enforced to leave the area. By the start of the 20th century, the area was mostly used for growing wheat and bean. Besides, a number of orchards were established in the area during that time.
The Japanese immigrants also created numerous nurseries in the area which exist till date. The City of Sawtelle was formed that consisted of most of the present day area of the district. The area was integrated with the city of Los Angeles in 1920. Today, West Los Angeles is a commercial hub and accommodates a number of schools.
West Los Angeles has the Stoner Recreation Center as one of its main recreational areas. You can enjoy playing basketball at one of the many basketball courts in this park. There are tennis and volleyball courts and football as well as soccer fields available at this place. If you have children in the family, you can find child's play area at this center.
One can make use of the picnic tables at this center to spend some great moments with family. The park also acts as a host to the Cherry Blossom Festival held annually.
