Gruman's Chinese Theater

Comparisons are often drawn between the importance of the Great Wall for China and the Grauman's Chinese Theater for Los Angeles. Standing tall for the last eighty years, this remarkable building is the cornerstone of Hollywood and a name synonymous to the ever important Chinese community of Los Angeles.

It is a known fact that the popularity of the place was so much ever since the day it had opened that people had actually caused a riot to catch a glimpse of the biggest names in the Hollywood industry which had gathered to mark the opening of the Grauman's Chinese Theater. Well, its fame has increased many folds since then.

Produced by Cecil B. DeMille, the original silent version of King of Kings was the movie that Grauman's Chinese Theater debuted with. Ever since, there have been a record breaking number of movie premiers that have taken place here, with the fan numbers going as high as 10,000 for the premier of The Wizard of Oz.

From hosting the prestigious Academy Awards multiple times, to being showcased in movies like Singing in the Rain, the recent Speed, and Mighty Joe Young, the theater has always been in the helm of the affairs as far as the entertainment industry catering to the largest audience in the world is concerned.

Although Grauman never owned more than one third of the share of the theater, it bore his name till 1973 when Mann bought it, renovated and renamed it to Mann's Chinese Theater. Defying the signs of aging, the interiors and exteriors of the theater are far from dilapidated and have maintained the same grandeur that has been the trademark of the Grauman's Chinese Theater for all the eight decades of its existence.

So next time even if you aren't a movie buff, a trip to Grauman's Chinese Theater is a must when on yourLos Angeles travel.
