Later inherited by a celery packaging firm, the facility has in the recent past been in the ownership of American Appliance who left it vacant in 1993. Though a light rail project to provide transport for commuters between the areas of downtown LA and Santa Monica had been in the horizon in the late 1980's, these were shelved after no significant progress seemed to come through.

The idea for the facility was made possible by the talented Wayne Bank who conceptualized an artistic purpose for the then derelict lot leading to its opening in September of 1994.
