Flights & Airline

Airlines and airports form one of the major infrastructures for any city or town. The sprawling nature of LA is proven by the fact that six major commercial airports and about a dozen private airports service it. The principal airport for Los Angeles is Los Angeles International also known as LAX. It has nine terminals and it is so big that you have to use shuttle buses to move in between the terminals when you travel to Los Angeles.

LAX has more original passengers than any other airport in the world. It is the fifth busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic and sixteenth busiest by cargo traffic according to figures of 2006. It served 2 million tons of freight and 60 million passengers in 2006 alone.

Besides these nine terminals, there are two terminals for private, commercial and corporate aircrafts known as Mercury and Landmark. Air charter firms as well as air taxi firms such as Great Circle aviation service these. The private air charters have much shorter check in times close to 10 minutes and the passengers decide departure time. These do not have long security lines but they cost a fortune for time savings.

LAX serves 69 international destinations in North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, The Middle East and Latin America besides 87 domestic flights. United Airlines is its most prominent airlines sharing 18.24% of the overall traffic along with United Express. American Airlines contribute 14.73% while the Southwest Airlines contributes 12.62 % to the overall traffic. Continental Airlines (3.76%), Northwest Airlines(3.79%), Alaska Airlines(4.74%) and Delta Airlines with 7.33% are some of the other major airlines. Mexicana is the airline with the most flights, which is North American.

United Express/United Airlines have the maximum departures from the LAX amounting to 210 flights a day, which is followed by American express at 126 and the Southwest airlines at 105. Air France, Lufthansa and United serve 2 destinations in Europe each everyday while Alaska Airlines serves 11 destinations in Latin America with Mexican Airlines every day.

American airlines, British airways, United & Virgin Atlantic all operate daily flights from the UK to LAX- the best prices on flights from London to Los Angeles can be found on flight deals website cheapflights.co.uk
