An important part of the Los Angeles travel cultural and artistic performance circuit is the 739 seat thrust theater located in the North Grand Avenue is the Mark Taper Forum. Named after the real estate developer that promoted it, Mark Taper, the theater and its neighboring three other theatres are managed by the Centre Theater Group.
Ever since it opened in 1967 as Los Angeles very own Lincoln Theater, the Mark Taper Forum, has been praised and appreciated for discovering, giving exposure and promoting new plays and voices for the theaters in America and the world. The preview of John Guare's The House of Blue Leaves marked the reopening of the Mark Taper Forum after a year long renovation by the Rios Clementi Hale Studios, a LA firm that finished the job on 30th August, 2008.
The Mark Taper Forum has been known for presenting plays that have a variety of themes and appeal to a large base of the audience. From the controversial and stirring play about the sexually repressed nun of the 17th century in The Devils, to Tony and Pulitzer Award winning plays like The Shadow Box, the Kentucky Cycle, Children of the Lesser God, and the highly acclaimed Angels in America, all are productions that are credited to the genius of the Mark Taper Forum.
