LA/Ontario International Airport

LA/Ontario International Airport is known as a public airport that is nestled 2.3 miles east of the central business district of Ontario, which is a city in San Bernardino County, California. This airport is owned and operated by the Los Angeles World Airports, which as an agency of the City of Los Angeles.

In the year 2008, there are about 6.2 million passengers who utilized the airport. The airport was dominated by the Southwest Airlines, who carried 49.38 percent of passenger in the year 2007.

The airport was first constructed by one of the first flying clubs in Southern California, the Friends of Ontario Airport and dates back to 1923 when a landing field was originated east of Central Avenue on land leased from Union Pacific Railroad. In the year 1941, the city purchased 470 acres surrounding the airport and approved construction of latest runways that was completed in the year 1942.

From that year, there are plenty of changes that were done. In the present day operations, the airport covers 1,700 acres and two runways. This is considered as the third major airport in the area after Los Angeles International Airport and John Wayne Airport.

Among those airports that are located in Palm Springs, this is the one that is less crowded than LAX. This is also famous as one of the five best alternate airports in America. The LA/Ontario International Airport was the center for the independent operations for ExpressJet Airlines that started the service to 14 spots in April 2007 and ended in September 2, 2008.
