Rancho Los Cerritos

The Rancho Los Cerritos is considered as one of the famous tourists place to visit. This was founded in the year 1834.Occupied and area of 167, 00 acre of land. This was run by the daughter of Manuel Nieto and her husband Guillermo Cota.

This was started of with the beginning of a very small strength, but later on developed so very well that it’s also called to be one of the tourist’s places of the city.

The excavation of stones in the year 1930 led one to believe that the Native Americans lived in that area. The inhabitants were displaced by the Great Baser of Utah and Nevada.

The built several villages in the Greater Los Angeles area. Their main form of lively hood was farming, fishing and hunting.

They learned new trades. And were converted to Christianity. The Tonga’s community became known as Gabrielno. To encourage people to settle in Altar California a Spanish soldier Manuel Nieto received a grant of 3,00,000 acres as a reward for military service.

He had with him cattle and horses and cultivated corn, and after his death, his children inherited the property. In 1843 December Niters children sold the property to John Temple, who started cattle operation. Due to severe flooding he had to sell away the property to Bux lye and Co.

The new owners decided to rear sheep and were owning 30,000 sheep and sheared twice a year for wool. In 1870 weep rearing was not profitable it was decided to start a country club. In 1930 Virginia Country Club was built and after the seniors death the family sold the ‘Property to long beach. In 1955 a museum was dedicated to Rancho.

Some of the import dates to remember are 2000-3000 B.C. The natives lived in that area. In 1887 long beach was formed 1979 city of long beach historical land mark was formed 1988 the historical land mark was given a number.
