Is there a rental rate increase limit in Los Angeles

The landlord can raise the apartment rental rate from three to eight percent every twelve months without asking permission from the Rent Adjustment Commission or the Rent Stabilization Division.

Effective July 2008, the annual increase is three percent. An additional one percent for electric service and one percent for gas if service is provided by the landlord. Another ten percent for each tenant exceeding the number of tenants allowed according to the original rental agreement.
