
Visiting Getty Center Los Angeles - An Uplifting and Educational Journey
The Getty Center is situated in Brentwood, Los Angeles. It is one of the two centers of the J.Paul Getty Museum. It houses European manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, drawings of the period before the 20th Century. In addition, it has a collection of European and American Photographs from 19th to the 20th Century.
Besides its gardens and architectural treasures, it acts as a reputed center of learning and education through the Getty Conservation Institute and Getty Research Institute.
The education department at the Museum has carved specialized training and workshop classes for different work-groups like professionals, K-12 and college students and faculty. There are educational programs for kids and families as well.
Students can add a new dimension to their understanding of art history, artists, art materials and techniques through advanced workshops which can include activities, online games, videos etc.
The scope of subjects on which light is shed in the center includes Nature in Art, Body Language, Artists as Storytellers, Exploring Art through Writing, Connecting History and Art and Mythology in European Art.
Special programs are organized periodically for college/University faculty and students. College students can visit the center every spring in order to become part of the College Night. Special guests are invited to adorn these occasions which hosts a myriad of surprises like food, music, special presentations, art exhibitions etc.
The college faculty can also organize programs as per their requirement or in collaboration with Museum staff.
The Museum Courtyard is kept as the family room, where parents can learn and play with their kids by participating in activities involving drawing, building, treasure-hunt walls, coves etc.
